CD Release "From one Path to Another" - Igloo Records
Basile Rahola's second album, in a quartet format (piano, sax, double bass, drums). An album that exudes maturity and serenity, but also complicity and even osmosis.
A reflection on man's place in today's complex world.
Basile Rahola, Pierre Hurty and Wajdi Riahi have found each other. They often play together, and in 2021 they recorded a spirited debut album ('Moments') with Julien Cuvelier on sax. The leading double bassist also invited Claudio De Rosa and Octavio Hernández to play on a few tracks.
The core of this trio will be heard just about everywhere, such is the strength of their friendship and musical telepathy. They play in each other's homes, but above all they play for each other.
This time, for this new album, it is the tenor sax Matthias Van den Brande who has been adopted by Basile to form a quartet with a very strong identity.
"From One Path to Another" reflects both maturity and serenity. These qualities are undoubtedly due to the French bassist's recent upheaval in his personal life. It was the perfect excuse to "make an album". For Basile Rahola only speaks when he has something to say.
Of course, the ensemble exudes freedom (in Wajdi's brilliant solos), complicity (Matthias's modulated, subtle and enveloping playing) and osmosis (Pierre's precise, slamming and gentle drumming). As for Basile, like a wise philosopher, he guides his group with flexibility and intelligence.
The album closes with 'One For the Forgotten', a reflection on our place in today's complex world.
