Double bassist Basile Rahola, recently arrived in Belgium, presents his new quartet with three outstanding musicians from the Belgian jazz scene. Pierre Hurty, an eclectic French drummer, Julien Cuvelier, a young and talented Belgian saxophonist, and Wajdi Riahi, his long-time sidekick, a Tunisian pianist who is particularly creative on both the Belgian and Tunisian scenes, with whom he performs as part of his trio (Baz Trio).
For this project, Basile has created a whole new repertoire, drawing heavily on the feelings he has experienced over the last few years, both on a personal and human level, as well as on past encounters and travels. This quartet offers jazz that pushes the dynamics to the extreme, bringing an impressive range of nuances to the table, while retaining the sincerity and spontaneity of the musical discourse as its main aim. These four musicians, who have just recorded their first album on the prestigious Fresh Sound New Talent label, featuring two distinguished guests (Octavio Hernández and Claudio Jr De Rosa), will be presenting the content of this promising opus at this concert.
