With its original line-up of trombone, electric guitar, double bass and drums, N∆BOU is a breath of fresh air on the Belgian jazz scene. Band leader and composer Nabou Claerhout brings her own unique sound to the trombone, using all kinds of effects to create a dreamlike, atmospheric and melancholy musical universe.
Lush, intimate scores alternate with fast-paced compositions. Trui Amerlinck's groovy bass riffs, Mathias Vercammen's elaborate drum patterns and Roeland Celis's virtuoso modern guitar playing also play their part in this musical adventure full of highlights. All this is combined with Claerhout's distinctive trombone playing that "sings, cries, throbs and moves many hearts through well-crafted contemporary pieces". The whole musical picture is endlessly intriguing and truly kaleidoscopic on first listen. It's a voice of its own in the Belgian jazz landscape, with already a strong signature.
