If there's one date you don't want to miss during the Festival, it's this one, as River Jazz Night is the main event of the fortnight: a unique evening during which a carefully selected musician presents three different projects in the same evening, in each of the Festival's partner venues. And who better to perform this masterly feat than the inevitable violinist Alexandre Cavaliere?
As a child, he learned rhythm in his father's band, and was already playing the piano, drums and violin regularly. It was through this instrument that he best expressed his great musical sensitivity, his improvisational skills and his sense of rhythm. Lulled by the melodies of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, swing became an obvious choice. Barely 12 years old, his career got off to a flying start when he met Didier Lockwood and Babik Reinhardt. After that, everything followed naturally, and this virtuoso quickly fulfilled his promise, success after success!
18:00 ALEXANDRE CAVALIERE - MODERN QUARTET - Jazz Station - €12
When he was 11 years old, Alexandre was invited by Didier Lockwood to play on the stage of the Salle Pleyel in Paris. On that same stage, he saw Aka Moon for the first time and was transported by Stéphane Galland's indescribable playing.
At the age of 18, Alexandre entered the Brussels Conservatoire to learn more about jazz. It was there that he met double bass prodigy Janos Bruneel.
More recently, Alexandre was invited to record, with Philip Catherine, the soundtrack to a film composed by a pianist with an extraordinary creative fibre, uncommon originality and great musical and technical knowledge: Casimir Liberski. They also shared a few scenes together.
For this 'creation' concert as part of the River Jazz Festival, Alexandre wanted to bring these three talents together for the first time. So you're in for a first. You'll hear mainly compositions by Alexandre Cavaliere, but also by the other musicians.
